Presentation Script

Wow - the presentation went really well.

Here is the script that we followed (loosely).

Introduction (Wayne)
Our main goal in this design project is to increase health and wellbeing through the uptake and engagement of participants in the ModBox program. We hope to achieve this by the development of two new-to-world accessories designed to enhance the existing ModBox environment.

We have focused not only on measurable health goals but also on the equally important positives of engaging participants with products that are both easy and fun to use; if you don’t enjoy the activity, you are probably not going to do it.

These stand-alone devices allow for full functionality without the need for the latest smartphone or portable computer.

Our devices take user interactions away from the often arbitrary cognitive realm and into the physical and spatial.

Data is not displayed by number values, but by simple to understand linear arrays. This spatial information is faster and easier to process when focussing on a complex task and is also easier for participants who struggle with numeracy or processing problems like dyslexia and dyscalculia.

Instant feedback is provided to all participants through real-time visual and auditory cues, meaning the coach, the participants, and the spectators are all connected to the game at the same time.

IntelliPost - Timer Function (Epi)
One problem that we addressed is that of keeping time. Training can be more effective when you don’t have to keep your eye on your watch. Likewise, the coach can do away with the stopwatch and whistle and focus instead on a participants form.
The posts can communicate with each other to allow extra training functions including the popular ‘beep test’.

(David)
The IntelliPost is manufactured from an extruded aluminium chassis with vacuum cast plastic ends, making for a light but strong training tool. It can lie on the ground, sit on a low stand, sit on top of a portable post like those that HART Sport make, or on top of boxing ring corner post.

Non-Newtonian Vest - Game, KYLO (Seb)
The vest provides protection from impacts, acts as a striking uniform and provides a platform for a variety of sparring games designed to improve both speed, aim, and blocking. Think laser-tag, but with boxing gloves.

(David)
The vest is made from a mesh liner for breathability, has soft light panels for visual feedback, D3O pads for impact absorption and redistribution, and woven conductive fabric to register hits.

Together - Match Mode (Epi)
While these two items both work well as stand-alone training tools, they also play well together. They connect to the existing ModBox bluetooth WLAN to enhance the overall gaming experience. The vest sends hit data to the game computer, while the IntelliPost provides visual and auditory data on the time remaining of each round and also shows each player’s scores as they happen. Everyone is included.
