Going through our 5 personas, distilling information to get an overarching view to find commonalities of pain points - I'm working on it!
Second draft of the talk is currently down to 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Trying to shave another 30 seconds off it will be a massive challenge.
Here is what I've got so far.
Greetings
Good morning Allan Hahn,
thankyou for your time today.
Introduce Team and People Focus
When Epi, David, Seb, Wayne, started this project, we quickly
realised that Modbox is a lot more than an evolution of traditional boxing. It
is so much more than the scoring technology and the impact reducing gloves. The
tech is there to serve the people who will be participating in the sport.
Needs
Different people have different needs and wants even if they don’t
realise it.
To get an idea of these latent needs we considered 5 main archetypes.
Then we gave these people a story.
We looked at the day in the life of a Paul, a
researcher and ModBox Coach. A person who is busy by default, and
extremely passionate about using sport as a vehicle for social development and
personal growth in the people he works with.
We considered the different types of people who play
recreational sports. People like…
Jake, where fitness is part of his everyday life. He pushes himself to
his limits and is always looking for a new challenge.
Aerisa, is more at home in her mind than in her body. She is a self-confessed Tech
Junkie and has used her love of gadgets as the lever to physical activity. She
monitors all of her stats, all the time. Between you and
me, she probably only participates in any physical activity because she bought
all the gadgets and needs and excuse to get a few more.
Brooke, young fit and very social. For her sport is as much about the
social engagement as it is about any fitness goals.
And finally we looked into the daily and annual cycles of the
venue, the neighbourhood PCYC, a multi-use community based training
space.
Through these personas and their stories we were able to identify
points where ModBox may be improved to better suit the people.
Identify Pain Points
Paul, the Coach, loves person to person contact but often
feels bogged down with the paperwork, including viewing hours of video footage of
players in order to track their progress.
Jake was excited when he read ESPN’s report about boxing training being one
of the best workouts that you could get, but he was a concerned that being part
of a training group may hold him back (and force him to socialise too
much). He’d much rather train by himself where possible, with a constantly
increasing level of difficulty that grows with his skills.
Aerisa doesn’t like contact sports which she views as mindless violence.
She knows that she should put more time into her fitness but not too much
time. To keep her motivated she needs to be able to monitor and track
her progress which she likes to share on social media.
Brooke needs more than just fitness to keep her motivated. She wants to feel a
connection with the coach and her new ModBox friends. Brooke also thinks that
Jake is pretty cute.
Goal and Direction
To meet these varying goals and needs of our users, we are
proposing a range of accessories to enhance the ModBox training. These
connected devices track and share data on each players performance while using
gamification to keep the training interesting, fun and ever changing.
